The next sitting of the AVE Preliminary (MCQ) Examination will be held on Friday, 17 April 2026.
Due to unprecedented demand for the AVE program, places in the 2026 MCQ Examination are limited and not guaranteed.
AVE Eligibility Assessment
Before applying for the MCQ Examination, you must first undergo an eligibility assessment.

Eligibility applications must be submitted via the online application portal on the AVBC website.

Eligibility assessments remain valid for three years.

A current English language test result meeting AVBC standards must be included with your application.
Once deemed eligible, candidates will be invited to apply for the MCQ Examination during the enrolment window.
Priority Enrolment
A priority enrolment window for the 2026 MCQ Examination is currently open to eligible candidates already in the AVE system.
New AVE Eligibility Applications
The acceptance of new eligibility applications is currently paused. Applications will reopen at 10:00am AEST on 6 October 2025.
Please note: acceptance may pause again if all available places in the 2026 MCQ Examination are filled.
AVE Final (Clinical) Examination
AVE Clinical Examination sessions are held in Queensland only. These are typically offered in June and November each year and run over five days. The next available Clinical Examination session will be held between November and December 2025. Exact dates will be provided to eligible candidates in due course.
