Due to the prevailing conditions of the COVID pandemic, we do not expect to hold the Preliminary (MCQ) Examination or the Final (Clinical) Examination until 2021. We will endeavour to give candidates as much notice of the exams as possible.
Changes to the Final (Clinical) Examination of the AVE
The other important information for all candidates concerns the overall examination format. The Preliminary (MCQ) Examination was updated in April 2017 and consists of two papers with computer-based delivery. The Preliminary Examination is held once a year (usually in April). Now the AVE Final (Clinical) Examination has also been updated and the new format will commence in 2021.
The number of sections of the Final (Clinical) Examination has been reduced from 12 to 9:
- 3 Oral (viva voce) examination sections in Small Animal Practice, Production Animal Practice and Preventive Medicine
- 6 Practical examination sections in Equine Practice, Cattle and Sheep Clinical Skills, Practical Anaesthesia, Practical Surgery, Pathology and Physical examination of a Dog and Cat.
New/Updated information booklet
In order to provide you with the latest information and advice, the “Information for AVE Candidates” booklet has been rewritten. Please take the time to read through the booklet as it contains essential information for all candidates sitting both parts of the AVE.
