AVBC is seeking applications from outstanding leaders across three independent Chair positions. These are pivotal roles shaping veterinary education, examination and specialist recognition across Australia and New Zealand.

Chair: Veterinary Schools Accreditation Advisory Committee (VSAAC)

The VSAAC oversees accreditation of veterinary education programs across Australia and New Zealand, ensuring graduates are safe, competent and fit for practice. As Chair, you will provide independent governance leadership and strategic direction to ensure AVBC’s accreditation framework remains rigorous, transparent and credible with universities, regulators and the public.

This is a high-influence role with direct impact on the quality of veterinary education and future workforce outcomes across the region.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Senior governance or Board-level leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of higher education quality assurance and/or accreditation systems
  • Capacity to exercise independent judgement and strategic oversight
  • Excellent facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills

Experience in veterinary education and familiarity with international accreditation frameworks are highly desirable.

Eligibility note: Applicants must not be currently employed by, or have been employed within the last two years by, an AVBC-accredited veterinary school.

Term: Three years, with eligibility for reappointment. Meetings are primarily virtual (minimum twice per year), aligned to accreditation cycles.

Chair: Australasian Veterinary Examination (AVE) Committee

The AVE provides the pathway for internationally qualified veterinarians seeking registration in Australia and New Zealand. The AVE Committee is responsible for overseeing the design, quality assurance and continuous improvement of the examination. As Chair, you will ensure the AVE remains valid, reliable, fair and fit-for-purpose, and aligned with Day One Competencies and contemporary regulatory expectations.

This role sits at the intersection of assessment quality, public protection and professional standards.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Senior governance experience at Board or Committee level
  • Strong understanding of professional assessment or examination systems
  • Experience in standards-setting or regulatory environments
  • Skill in managing risk, integrity and complex decision-making

Expertise in psychometrics or assessment design, and familiarity with multi-jurisdictional frameworks, are highly desirable.

Term: Three years, with eligibility for reappointment. Meetings are primarily virtual, aligned to AVE cycles.

Chair: Advisory Committee on the Registration of Veterinary Specialists (ACRVS)

The ACRVS provides independent expert advice and decision-making on veterinary specialist recognition across Australia and New Zealand. As Independent Chair, you will lead the Committee with integrity and rigour: ensuring specialist registration decisions are consistent, evidence-based and firmly grounded in the public interest.

This is a critical governance role supporting confidence in specialist recognition frameworks across the profession.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated governance or regulatory experience at Board or Committee level
  • Understanding of standards-setting, credentialing or professional recognition processes
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and manage complex decisions
  • Strong communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills

Eligibility note: Applicants must be able to demonstrate independence from relevant professional bodies and have no material financial interests in organisations whose applications may be considered by the Committee.

Term: Three years, with eligibility for reappointment. Meetings are primarily virtual (minimum annually), with additional out-of-session work as required.
