Regulation and title protection of veterinary nurses and technicians is a step closer with the AVBC and the VNCA reaching agreement to progress these issues at a collaborative workshop in Melbourne.
AVBC has approved its new Accreditation Standards, which will be used to evaluate veterinary education and training programs leading to general registration as a veterinarian in Australia and New Zealand.
AVBC has released its new Day One Competencies (D1Cs) for veterinary graduates, which come into effect on 1 January 2024. The competencies will help ensure that veterinary graduates in Australia and New Zealand have the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for their professional careers and continued career development.
The report summarises some of the topics and solutions that were discussed at Day One Competencies (D1Cs), support during clinical placements, the new graduate transition phase. defining the roles “Mentor”, “Coach”, and “Supervisor” for the veterinary sector,
acknowledgment of the importance of Non-Technical Skills (NTS) and recognition of the issues in veterinary specialisation.
Applications for the 2023 MCQ have now closed. The next available sitting of the Preliminary (MCQ) Examination will be in 2024, likely in April.
All veterinary specialists registered with an Australian veterinary board may now apply for Skills Assessment for the purpose of migration with AVBC even if they obtained their primary veterinary qualifications overseas.
AVBC’s Australasian Veterinary Examination Committee confirmed the record number of 43 successful AVE candidates in 2022 – doubling the previous record of 21 in 2021.
The next sitting of the Preliminary (MCQ) Examination will be on Friday 21 April 2023. AVE Final (Clinical) Examinations are scheduled for 29 May – 2 June 2023 and 3 July – 7 July 2023.
The AVBC office is closed from 5pm Thursday 22 December 2022, re-opening 9am Tuesday 3 January 2023.
AVBC hosted the Sustainable Practice Forum on 1 & 2 December 2022. It addressed issues including new graduate transition to practice & CPD.
